During COVID-19

Virtual Volunteer Opportunities

This is a time of uncertainty for us all. We don’t know what’s coming, and we don’t know how to help. The novel coronavirus is spreading, and it creates many problems beyond COVID-19. None of us has the power to change the scary situation we are all facing, but we can face it together, and stay as strong and healthy as we can during this time.

At Heart Touch, our top priority has always been to support health and well being. We normally do this by offering gentle, therapeutic touch therapy to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. However, current health and safety considerations require us to suspend all in-person volunteering until the pandemic is controlled. Although we are unable to perform hands-on volunteering, there are other ways to connect with people during this lonely, frightening time. COVID-19 may limit our abilities to touch with our hands, but we can touch hearts remotely.

This page features virtual and remote volunteer opportunities to aid communities impacted by COVID-19. Thousands of volunteers like you are needed daily.

Here are some ways you can help right now:

Handmade Masks

Health care professionals are in desperate need of protective gear. Amid the shortage, there are many groups designing masks that can supplement personal protective equipment, also known as PPE. Join Heart Touch as we build a coalition of sewers that will provide partner hospices and health care organizations with handmade masks.

Wellness Checks

By staying home and providing remote wellness checks to hospice patients, the elderly, and immunocompromised persons, you could save lives while also addressing the deep anxieties that so many people are feeling by being isolated at home.

Sending Letters

To combat loneliness, many care facilities, nursing homes, and hospitals are welcoming cards, drawings, and letters from the public. From a simple postcard to a multipage letter, sending a piece of mail can boost someone’s day.

Support Frontline Healthcare Workers

A simple 'thank you' can go a long way. Contact your local health care facilities to let them know that you appreciate their tireless work during this time. Or support them with materials such as food, blood donations, and homemade masks

Donate to Help Heart Touch Volunteers Relieve Frontline Workers

Heart Touch is urgently developing a specialized COVID-19 online massage training that will prepare therapists to provide caring, compassionate touch to those on the front lines of the pandemic, as soon as it becomes safe to do so. In order to recruit and educate the brave massage therapists who will be the first to break the barrier of societies' new views on "safe" touch, we need your financial support.
