Community Outreach Program

The Heart Touch Project Community Outreach Program is focused on supporting our community of patients, volunteers, partners (hospitals and hospices), nurses, social workers, chaplains and care partners through various outreach programs.   We offer self-care techniques, relaxation sessions and chair massages at these various community events.

CARE FOR THE CAREGIVERS

The Heart Touch Project hosts a Care for the Caregivers event every quarter.  This is a community event that includes our patients, those medically fragile and terminally ill, their family members and loved ones, and the Heart Touch Project volunteers, nurses, social workers, chaplains and care partners.  The Care for the Caregivers events helps our community combat compassion fatigue while giving back to those in the nurturing caregiving roles.  Find out when the next Care for the Caregivers event is

CHAIR MASSAGES FOR NURSES

The Heart Touch Project has partnered with the National Holistic Institute to provide chair massages to Pediatric nurses during their Care for the Caregivers Day at Mattel's Children Hospital at UCLA.  Studies have found that just 10-15 minutes of quality touch can fight the effects of compassion fatigue that Pediatric nurses experience working in a stressful healthcare environment. Volunteers who provide chair massages to Pediatric nurses receive internship hours which are applied towards their massage license requirement along with vital experience working with the most critical of care givers, nurse.  For more information on being a volunteer to provide chair massages to Pediatric nurses
