The Essentials of Pain & Palliative Care Massage Therapy

Massage therapy and pain science share more common roots than are often discussed. Both deal intimately with the human nervous system. Both showcase the effectiveness of mindful presence and connection. And both can support the rapidly-growing field of Palliative Care.

The Essentials of Pain & Palliative Care Massage Therapy provides a foundation for understanding pain science and the functions of palliative care. This course prepares massage therapists to offer services to individuals with acute or persistent pain, as well as to work within a palliative care team.

Training Benefits

Upon completion of this training program you will receive a certificate of completion from The Heart Touch Project. The Heart Touch Project is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider (450864-08), by the California Board of Registered Nursing as a Continuing Education Provider CEP 13426, and by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (V10953). This program may be used for continuing education credits for members of the Association of Professional Chaplains.

The role of massage in pain and palliative care
Understanding the difference between hospice and palliative care
Defining the diseases in pain and palliative care
Medications used in pain and palliative care
Effects on medications on massage therapy

Working on an integrative pain and palliative team in a hospital and hospice setting

Case presentations
Hands on demonstrations

Training Requirements

Participants must have completed some training in massage therapy to enroll in this class. Previous attendance in The Heart Touch Method is recommended.
