Infant Massage Instructor Training

Course Description

This day-and-a-half course prepares Heart Touch Children’s Program volunteers to teach infant massage to parents of babies in a hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A full day is devoted to learning a massage protocol for infants and to exploring techniques for teaching massage to parents. On the half day, participants teach massage to parents and their infants. This course is required for Heart Touch volunteers to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in our partner hospitals.

Note this course does not grant “Certified Infant Massage Instructor” status.

  • Infant Massage Protocol
  • Massage Techniques Adapted to a Fragile Infant Population
  • Infection Control Procedures
  • Practicum in Teaching Infant Massage to Parents

  • Twelve continuing education hours awarded by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Schedule

  • 8:30 on Saturday—registration opens
  • 9:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday
  • 9:30 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday

Fee

There is a $75.00 fee for those who volunteer at one of our partner hospitals. For all others, the fee is $250.00. The fee is due with the application.
