Trainings

The Heart Touch training curriculum is at the core of our mission as an educational organization. As new service opportunities in healthcare have come up, we added trainings to prepare volunteers to work more effectively with the populations they see.

Georgia Noble and Shawnee Isaac Smith created the original Heart Touch Training at the time volunteers worked with those with end-stage AIDS. The focus of that training subsequently evolved to include issues that all individuals face at the last stage of life. Recently Shawnee introduced a new training, Advanced Heart Touch in End-of-Life Care, to deepen a volunteer’s skills and sensitivities in serving those individuals.

When the opportunity arose to work with children in hospitals and hospice, Heart Touch staff created two specialized trainings that prepare Children’s Program volunteers to meet the needs of a medically complex pediatric population. Heart Touch has since expanded our curriculum by adding trainings for healthcare professionals who want to deepen the impact of their work with patients.

All of the trainings offered by Heart Touch award continuing education credits. The Heart Touch Project is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as an Approved Provider and by the California Board of Registered Nursing as a continuing education provider. Members of the Association of Professional Chaplains may also enroll in a number of Heart Touch trainings and earn continuing education credits.
