In our society we're all so afraid of growing old, and what we're afraid of we don't want to see - so the seniors are another population that’s very isolated and alone in the final stages of their life.

Our programs in senior homes throughout Los Angeles touch the lives of elderly people who can no longer get out on their own.  Many of the seniors have no family and our volunteers are their only guests. Our seniors range in age from 65-102 years old and they cope with a variety of health challenges.  Beyond the physical benefits, the elderly who receive massage through The Heart Touch™ Project, experience the benefit of companionship.

In addition to Heart Touch™ volunteers visiting the retired nuns of the Immaculate Heart Community Kenmore Residence, we have programs at many other senior homes and assisted living facilities across Southern California. Volunteers also visit clients of Jewish Home for the Aging, Sisters of Social Service, Sisters of St. Joseph and Mary Crest Manor.

The elderly have been particularly vocal about their appreciation of the service Heart Touch™ provides and we, in turn, intend to further develop our programs for this important population.

Massage reminds 91-year old nun Socorro Mesa that she is more than the sum of her parts.  "Massage gives you a sense of wholeness in who you are, it makes you feel good so you can know yourself," she says.  "It gets the body, mind, soul and spirit together."
